In this quick analysis in commemoration to Avengers: Age of Ultron release in South America, we try to understand why do Hulkbuster's armor never works.
So get this: Tony Stark is the tech guy ok? He makes these sweet super armors filled with technology that can pretty much do whatever the story tells he can do. For all intends and purposes he is the marvel universe equivalent to "Batman" when it comes to "Beat people up this character isn't supposed to".
Hell, as you can see he even has a "Hulkbuster" armor right?
There's this big movie called "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and for all trailers you get to see that cool and imposing armor charging straight at the Hulk. Many people around me commented on how badass that thing looked. I could only laugh. Why?
Because Iron Man never busted the Hulk.
Again and again would writers conjure up a super Iron Man device and he always came short. Not once did he ever beat the Hulk, not with a "Hulkbuster armor" anyway.
From a writer's perspective, that makes perfect sense.
See the Hulk is this rampaging monster right? This unstoppable being that cannot be stopped? The Avengers secret weapon? Hell, the first Avengers story is about Loki manipulating the Hulk for a rampage.
Being an unstoppable Avenger is what Hulk is.
While being a smart, tech guy with sweet armors is what Iron Man is all about. So this means Iron Man gets to build "Hulkbusters" and whatever but he can never truly beat the Hulk, otherwise both characters would come short. Either Iron Man is smarter, stronger and flat out better than the Hulk, or both characters have their own strength and weakness and are able to co-exist.
Still it's quite funny the idea that this one character gets to create an object with the intend and purposes of stopping another, only for it to fail. Over and over again. For decades.
